Shopfitting company meets MAWA hanger - a story of generations

In the 1980s, Günther Kunze set up the textile trade business of Michael Schenk's parents with his shopfitting company. Why did MAWA hangers already play a role back then and why does the Kunze family still maintain close contact with our CEO Michaela Schenk today? That's exactly what we wanted to find out in more detail in our next MAWA Love Story!

Mr Kunze, how did your connection to MAWA come about?

We have been running the Kunze shopfitting company for generations. My great-grandfather started out as a master carpenter in 1920 and my father Günther Kunze ultimately made the company big, so we took over the shop design for various textile shops, which we still do today. In the 1980s, my father received an enquiry from Mrs Schenk's parents, who at that time ran a textile trade shop in Wandsbek, a district of Hamburg. That's how the first contact came about. And at that time, my father had his eye on the sales placement of the goods in addition to the flooring, lighting and furniture. And this is where MAWA hangers came into play, because even back then the hangers were an absolute eye-catcher and a recommendation that my father was happy to pass on to his customers back then.

Do you still recommend MAWA hangers to your customers today?

Absolutely! This connection has remained to this day! MAWA hangers are the best in my opinion. They have the perfect shape so that garments can be presented well, because unfortunately the presentation of goods is often still neglected by many textile retailers.

You also have your own showroom in Elmshorn near Hamburg?

Yes, exactly, we meet customers there to demonstrate our shopfitting system within an exhibition for our customers. We also show furniture examples there and of course MAWA hangers.

What is your favourite hanger and why?

I only use MAWA hangers at home. As a trained carpenter, I am an absolute fan of MAWA wooden hangers!

If you could look into the future, where do you see MAWA in 10 years?

MAWA will continue to be an innovative clothes hanger manufacturer that focuses on sustainable and social issues. In general, I think it's great that social commitment is so important at MAWA, especially towards its employees!

Thank you for your great MAWA Lovestory!
