Here you park diagonally!

HERE YOU PARK DIAGONALLY! YES, WE PRODUCE IN GERMANY AND YES, WE ARE SUPERFICIAL. Georg Hafner, our head of the galvanising department, finds out on his very first day how precise we really are.

On my first day at work, before 7.00 a.m., I made the biggest mistake you can make at MAWA: I parked straight instead of diagonally!!!

It didn't even take 20 minutes until colleagues were standing in the galvanising department all upset to draw my attention to this major faux pas. Since then I ALWAYS park at an angle – I wouldn't dare do it a second time.

While he is still smiling, he also talks about his first job interview in Pfaffenhofen:

My wife and I have just returned from our holiday, it is high summer. I go to the office for a job interview, my wife waits in the car with the dog. After a short while, a lady comes up to her and asks: ‘May I offer you some water? Do you need a bowl for your dog?’ I found that very sympathetic. He also remembers his first days with us well: ‘Right at the beginning I ask Michaela Schenk: Why don't we actually offer any golden hangers?’ That was my first project, for the Arab market. The ideas are being implemented here, I'm knocking on open doors everywhere. New ideas have also led to a significant reduction in the number of scrap in my first year. With 30 million parts, that's quite significant. And when we came up with the idea for our ‘Best of Metal’ series, I took the first prototype to Michaela Schenk and said: ‘That's how it looks.’ Answer: ‘Great, let's do it!’

I feel the greatest pride for my people in the galvanising department. They used to be work colleagues, now they're friends. I speak deep Swabian, and they all speak Upper Bavarian – at first it was like Turkish backwards for me.

And your best experience?

The incredible team spirit among all the colleagues, he laughs. Georg Hafner, our head of the galvanising department

Thank you so much Georg for your sharing your MAWA Love-Story!
