"I'm really into it, the work at MAWA"

"I'm really into it, the work at MAWA"

...says Mr Josef Jaksche, one of our longest-serving employees with over 43 years of service, who continued to work at MAWA on the side until May 2023 even after retiring!

Mr Jaksche, can you start by telling us about your professional history at and with MAWA?

I started at MAWA on 1 September 1977 and worked there full-time until 2020. At the beginning of my time at MAWA, I was a warehouse worker and driver. Later, my tasks included internal stocking, warehouse organisation and the provision of individual parts in the warehouse. When I retired, I continued to work in the warehouse on the side until May of this year.

Can you tell us something about your personal background?

I was born in Fernhager and still live in the municipality of Scheyern. I am married and have two children and three grandchildren.

Over 43 years with the company is impressive, what has stuck with you?

Actually, right at the beginning in 1977, when we supplied prisons that assembled individual parts for us by hand, including the UWA Aichach for women, men and juveniles, Neuburg Prison, Eichstätt Prison, Nuremberg Prison and Stadelheim Prison. My job was to prepare the individual parts that were delivered in the warehouse. The co-operation was then discontinued around 1993, when more and more machines were put into use.

That also reminds me of a funny story (laughs)! Back then, a CNC milling machine was ordered for the tool shop, but the machine didn't fit in the lift! However, the metalworking shop and toolmaking department were located on the first floor, so our bricklayer had to break open the outer wall, which you can still see today, as hinged doors were later installed here.

How do you feel after you retire?

I definitely miss my work at MAWA already. When you've spent so much time there every day, you can only say: I love it!

Thank you very much, Mr Jaksche, for taking the time to give us a little insight into your 43 years at MAWA! We wish you all the best, please come and visit us again!
