For MAWA, sustainability means carefully designing every aspect of production. Our products are made from environmentally friendly materials such as metal and wood and we pursue a process to permanently reduce CO₂ emissions through our production. Our hangers are particularly durable and therefore meet the requirements of the circular economy.

Metal clothes hangers from MAWA are a sustainable choice for many reasons. We have been producing in Germany since 1948 and are constantly optimizing our production to make it even more environmentally friendly. Our production waste is recycled and we only use materials for our non-slip coating that are not hazardous to health.

MAWA Green Hanger
Clothes hangers, but in green! With our Green Hanger series, we offer sustainable clothes hangers made from new, innovative materials, first and foremost our MAWA C-Cycle. It consists of a bio-based material that is obtained from plant waste (cellulose). In contrast to burning these plant residues, our C-Cycle clothes hanger binds CO₂ in an everyday object and actively supports climate protection through this storage function. The high-quality granulate of the MAWA C-Cycle combines stability, functionality and a natural experience.
Our aim is to create products that are not only long-lasting, but also conserve resources and actively contribute to minimising waste. With our MAWA Green Hangers, we are making a clear statement that we are committed to environmental awareness and responsibility along the entire value chain.

Which certificates confirm that MAWA clothes hangers are sustainable?
Our metal hangers are particularly durable. Thanks to their high-quality workmanship, they can be used for years without breaking and are not a disposable product.
Wooden coat hangers from MAWA are FSC®-certified and therefore bear the symbol for responsible forest management.
Our MAWA Green Hanger C-Cycle consists of up to 98% natural fibers and its production produces fewer CO₂ emissions than coat hangers made of fossil plastic. A TÜV seal proves that the material of our C-Cycle hangers is over 85% biogenic, so you can feel good about choosing a coat hanger that perfectly combines sustainability and quality.
Are MAWA clothes hangers recyclable?
Recycling is important, but we think long-lasting products that we can use for years and decades are even more important when it comes to avoiding waste and conserving resources. Our metal hangers are particularly durable, as they neither break nor rust and remain in use for years - both in the fashion store and in the closet.
Our MAWA wooden hangers are also particularly durable and can be used for a long time without wearing out.
Based on this conviction, we at MAWA do not offer any plastic hangers made from 100% fossil materials, as these are often no longer usable after a short time due to material wear. Furthermore, fossil materials are neither future-proof nor sustainable.
All production waste of our metal hangers is collected separately and recycled.
Are the coatings on the hangers free from harmful substances?
The coatings on our hangers do not contain any SVHC substances (substances of very high concern).
Products made of plastic and PVC can contain so-called phthalates. These toxic plasticizers can be transferred to your skin and clothing during daily use. For this reason, we use an anti-slip coating that does not contain these toxic chemicals.
We also use water-based varnishes when processing our wooden hangers.
How long do MAWA clothes hangers last?
Our hangers come with a statutory warranty of two years, but MAWA coat hangers can be used for decades. Our metal coat hangers in particular always retain their shape and do not lose any of their quality over the years. The high-quality workmanship and durability of our products are also two of the most important properties of our coat hangers and make them particularly sustainable and cost-effective everyday items. We underline the durability of our coat hangers with our 10-year guarantee on our metal coat hangers. This guarantee only applies to end customers.
Can the stability of MAWA coat hangers decrease over time?
We use materials and manufacturing processes that guarantee particularly high dimensional stability and load-bearing capacity over many years without any loss of quality. This includes our MAWA coat hanger hook, which, despite being rotatable, is firmly attached to the hanger and can easily carry even heavy items of clothing.
Depending on the model, MAWA coat hangers are also suitable for heavy textiles and items of clothing such as motorcycle jackets. For example, our Bodyform jacket hanger can carry up to five kilograms.
What is the difference between bio-based materials and conventional plastic?
The term plastic refers to a material that does not occur naturally. In this sense, our Green Hanger MAWA C-Cycle coat hangers are also made of plastic. The subtle difference, however, lies in the polymers that are used. Fossil polymers based on petroleum are used for »conventional« plastic. Just as the sale of plastic bags in grocery stores has already been stopped, we expect that plastic coat hangers will no longer be used in the future. However, for our C-Cycle hangers we use biological materials from waste from the wood industry, which we bind with biopolymers. This creates a particularly sustainable hanger that consists of up to 98% biogenic material. This makes them a real alternative to conventional plastic hangers.
Why does MAWA not offer clothes hangers made from plastic?
As part of our Green Hanger series, we offer the sustainable C-Cycle coat hanger made from bio-based plastic, but we consciously decide against coat hangers made from conventional fossil plastic.
Fossil plastic is made from petroleum - a process that is very energy-intensive. If a plastic coat hanger is no longer needed and is disposed of, it often cannot be recycled due to consisting of mixed materials. Instead, it ends up in non-degradable plastic waste and breaks down into microplastics. Furthermore, many plastic hangers offer neither the load-bearing capacity nor the high-quality feel of other materials such as wood or metal.
Instead of plastic coat hangers, MAWA offers sustainable alternatives made from metal, wood and innovative, new materials. This means we can offer you the right coat hanger for every type of use, from exclusive hotels to modern fashion stores.
